Blackwater Falls State Park


Blackwater Falls gets its name by the 57-foot waterfall that is tinted by the tannic acid of fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The area that is Blackwater Falls State Park has been a very popular tourist destinations since the 1800s. In 1930 it was made into a state parks system. There are many different trails to hike on the state park, as well as boating, fishing and swimming. The park is located in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County. and offer several viewing platforms that allow visitors to enjoy scenic views year-round. The lodge restaurant, "The Smokehouse," is open daily and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving the best food in the area. During the peak seasons and holiday weekends The Smokehouse offers a buffet.

Monongahela National Forest


The Monongahela National Forest is located near Blackwater Falls State Park. The forest spans nearly a million acres, and encompasses one of America's most diverse ecological regions. There are many birds, trees and even eight types of endangered animals that call the forest home. The forest is a dream for those who enjoy bird watching. Some of the highlights of the park include the Spruce Knob, picnicking and backpacking.
